GoodLife Agency awarded $7.5 Million dollar federal grant to support local educators

GoodLife Agency (GLA) and three (3) Metro Detroit School Districts awarded a $7.5 million-dollar federal grant to Support Educators.

The GoodLife Agency, the grant Lead Agency and three (3) Local Education Agencies in Metro Detroit: Eagles Nest Academy, George Washington Carver Academy, and River Rouge School District are the recipients of a three (3) year, $7.5 million grant from U.S. Department of Education’s Teacher and School Leader (TSL) program.

The funds will be utilized to increase teacher and school leader effectiveness and improve student learning and academic performance in six (6) high-need schools. The project will focus on strengthening school leadership, teaching, and learning, to improve student academic performance.

The pandemic had very different effects on students, different interventions are needed to help those who suffered serious setbacks. The LEAP project will provide a well developed
and tested model to attract or retain staff with targeted professional development, and ESL, special education, social work, and trauma supports to address trauma arising from the pandemic.

“The TSL grant is a game changing opportunity for George Washing Carver Academy and the City of Highland Park. This grant is targeted at the heart of improving performance in schools, focusing on teachers and instruction.” - Sylvia Brown, Superintendent

The GoodLife Agency has supported school districts nationally. For the past five (5) years, GLA has provided services for TIF/TSL grantees to assist with implementing strategic goals for grant sustainability and worked with our three (3) Michigan LEAs in various capacities—from board leadership, technology systems integration, to staff training and development. GLA has continued to expand our reach and growth and development services in the K-12 arena.

“This Teacher and School Leader federal grant will help accelerate learning recovery and target support in our three (3) high need districts. We are excited for this opportunity to partner together and build on the strengths in these schools to show what is possible when every educator is supported, and every student can learn from a world-class teacher.”- Vivian Palmer, GoodLife Agency, CEO and LEAP Project Director
